Proposed Footpaths & Traffic Calming Measures on the R524 – Athea Village

Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to Section 38 (3) of the Road Traffic Act 1994, as amended by the Public Transportation Regulation Act, 2009 (Section 46), Limerick City and County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to introduce the following road layout amendments on the R524 Athea Village, Co. Limerick:

  • Construction of 350m of 1.5m – 1.8m wide Footpaths.
  • Installation of two Pedestrian Crossing with Belisha Beacons.
  • Construction of 225mm diameter Stormwater drainage with Manholes and Gullies.
  • Installation of Public Lighting (6 new Public Lighting Columns).
  • Installation of appropriate Road Markings and Traffic Signage.

The works will involve the construction and installation of two new Pedestrian Crossings to NTA Standard Detail NTA-TCD-0700-006 & TII-CC-SCD-05134, one with Belisha Beacons and one with Signage and appropriate road markings and traffic signage. Construction of 225mm diameter Stormwater Drainage with Manholes and Gullies. Construction and Installation of new Public Lighting. Installation of appropriate Road Markings and Traffic Signage.

Drawings and particulars of the proposed project are available for inspection at Newcastle West Area Office, Aras William Smith O Brien, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick (V42 EH73) and Limerick City and County Council, Dooradoyle Rd, Dooradoyle, Limerick, (V94 WV78) and may be inspected during normal office hours 9am to 5pm from Wednesday12th August 2026 to Wednesday 9th September 2026 inclusive. They are also available for inspection online during the above timeframe at https://mypoint.limerick.ie 

Submissions or observations regarding the proposal may be made in writing to the above offices or online at https://mypoint.limerick.ie on or before 5pm, on Wednesday 9th of September 2026.
