  • Fuller's Folly Newcastle West

Are you passionate and knowledgeable about Newcastle West and West Limerick? Do you know any off-the-radar tourist spots? Are you a great talker and love meeting new people, as well as a great business person? Well then this could be for you!

Limerick City and County Council is seeking expressions of interest for an occupier of a new Tourist Information Office incorporating a craft shop/ artist studio at Fuller’s Folly, Newcastle West, Co Limerick.

Fuller’s Folly is strategically located adjacent to the Desmond Castle complex, which overlooks the Square in Newcastle West, on the banks of the river Arra and the N21 road, which has traffic volumes of 18,000+ vehicles pass through the town per day.

The Council has completed external refurbishment of the building, and the ground floor is approximately 28.57m² with an impressive entrance lobby, and accessed off Bridge Street.

Given the location of the building, Limerick City and County Council is seeking to open it up as a Tourist Information Office from 03 May until 06 September 2019, on a 7 days a week basis. This space would also incorporate a craft shop or an artist studio as an anchor tenant within the building.

Gordon Daly, Director of Social Development and District Manager for the Newcastle West Municipal District said: “West Limerick has a wealth of tourist attractions and sites, with Newcastle West at its core. Recent developments has seen increasing visitor numbers to the Desmond Castle (15,613 in 2018), other local attractions and offerings including the Demesne, the Great Southern Greenway Limerick and the Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum.”

“The proposed Tourist Office will be ideally located to serve the increasing number of tourists and visitors who are coming to West Limerick. It also links in with the Newcastle West Vision 2023, which is a five year development strategy and the new Limerick Tourism Strategy which will exploit and develop Limerick’s tourism potential.”

Limerick City and County Council is seeking expressions of interest from local crafts people, artists or business people who are interested in occupying the building for the tourist season of 2019.

The agreed occupier would also be required to operate the Tourist Information Office in conjunction with their own enterprise, with the tourism offering being supported by a local community employment scheme and/ or volunteers.

Any craft/ artistic discipline is welcome, however, Limerick City and County Council is keen to avoid competition with existing retailing outlets in the town, and the product should be complementary to the space and to the existing offer available in Newcastle West.

This is an exciting opportunity for Newcastle West to become a gateway for tourists in West Limerick.
