All Limerick areas have seen increased scored from last year

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon has commended the groups of volunteers across Limerick for their dedication and commitment to keeping Limerick clean.

The Mayor’s comments come following the release of the results of the National Tidy Towns competition.

Adare is Limerick’s tidiest town and gold medal winner followed by Ardpatrick, Galbally, Kilmallock and Newcastle West, who all receive bronze medals.

Limerick city centre had a jump of 12 points in their scores to 286, while Rockhill captured the Endeavour Award for getting the largest percentage increase in their marks compared with 2015.

“Congratulations to all those involved in the Tidy Towns competition this year. It is amazing the work that all the groups do very year to keep their communities clean and tidy. Every single person on every single committee should take a bow for a job well done,” he said.

“Fifty-five communities took part this year. Those who competed last year saw their marks increase this year, while a number of other communities returned to the competition this year,” he added.

Sinead McDonnell, Environment Awareness Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “The results for Limerick are very encouraging and are a result of the hard work and dedication that communities across Limerick put in every day of the year to make their areas better.  It is a particularly pleasing that all entrants saw their marks increase compared to last year.”

“The final of the Going For Gold competition, backed by the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, is only a few weeks away, so there will be even more celebrations for communities across Limerick.”
