Summer comes to life at Honan’s Quay in Limerick

Limerick City and County Council are delighted to present ‘Summer at Honan’s Quay.’ 

For the summer months, Honan’s Quay in Limerick City will be transformed into a recreational space by the river for people to enjoy. 

Activities will take place across the summer while on four Saturday’s there will be family fun, live music, games, stage acts and street performers. 

Table tennis tables and large scale street games are free to enjoy while the mobile urban forest is relocating from Colbert Station to Honan’s Quay to offer seating and shade. 

The new mural on the University of Limerick City Campus building provides a colourful backdrop adding to the festive vibe. 

Creative production specialists Milestone Inventive are co-ordinating the event. 

The first of four fun days takes place on Saturday June 3 with activities that include: 

  • Insta Bingo 
  • Free Children’s Art Workshops 

  • Street Games  

  • Ice-cream Stand 

  • Libra Strings – a teenage classical strings octet  

  • Music Generation presents Limerick Voices  

  • Face Painting 

  • Kids Disco with DJ Will Softly 

  • Stilt Walkers and Circus Skills 

  • Hot Jazz Quintet - Jazz fusion led by John Daly 

Additional fun days are being organised for: 

  • Saturday 1st July 
  • Saturday 5th August 

  • Saturday 26th August 

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley said: 

As the school holidays begin, ‘Summer at Honan’s Quay’ gives people an additional space to enjoy in a key riverside location at the heart of Limerick city. The planned activities, street games and fun days will all add to a festive feeling in the city throughout the summer months. This is a great initiative and I hope to see people take full advantage of this space.” 

Director of Service for Planning, Environment and Place-Making, Vincent Murray said: 

This exciting Public Realm initiative will showcase and promote the use of this riverside site.  

The planned events will create a festive atmosphere for both young and old to enjoy. Last year the ‘Limerick Urban Forest’ event was well received by the public and we will replicate and improve upon this success.” 

The road at Honan’s Quay will be closed from June 1st to September 1st to promote safe public use and enjoyment of this riverside site.
