Storm Brian – Update 14h30 - Provision for those who are homeless

Limerick City and County Council has instructed that all accommodation for those experiencing homelessness to remain open 24 hours on Saturday due to Storm Brian.

Extra spaces are also being provided should they be required, so no one should be rough sleeping.

Additional beds are being provided at:

  • Temporary Emergency Provision at Eden Villa, 31 Edward Street, Limerick on 061 418431. It is the last building before Sarsfield Army Barracks on your right as you head away from the People’s Park. The facility is remaining open throughout the entire day to ensure that all clients using or presenting to the facility would be able to access shelter.
  • McGarry House on Alphonsus Street
  • St. Patrick's Hostel, Clare Street
  • Thomond House, Thomondgate

The Out of Hours Service will open from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The 24 hour freephone number 1800 60 60 60 will be in operation throughout the weekend.

Limerick City and County Council is responsible for the provision and the funding of accommodation for those experiencing homelessness.

Met Eireann has currently issued an updated YELLOW Wind Warning for Limerick which is valid from 10pm on Friday 20 October to 10pm on Saturday 21 October 2017.

And a YELLOW rainfall warning valid from 9am Friday 20 October to 9pm on Saturday 21 October 2017.

There may be surges along the Shannon Estuary associated with the storm coupled with high tides tomorrow (Saturday 21 Oct 2017) morning and evening, which may result in some localised flooding.

The high tides for Limerick tomorrow are due at 8h08 and 19h50.

Sandbags are being provided for collection at Limerick City and County Council’s Park Road Depot, Rhebogue until 4pm this afternoon.

They are for vulnerable areas in St Mary’s park and Corbally and are being given out as a precaution.

The Army has been heavily involved in providing the sandbags.

Limerick City and County Council has crews on standby to attend to any incidents arising out of Storm Brian.

We are appealing to members of the public to stay away from rivers and open areas of water during the storm and to heed all the directions of the authorities. They are for your safety.
