The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Francis Foley has welcomed the announcement by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Ireland UC of an expansion of its existing facility in Plassey, Limerick.

The €100 million investment has the potential to create 80 new jobs, adding to its existing Limerick workforce in one of the largest contact lens manufacturing facilities in the world.

Mayor Francis Foley said: “I congratulate Johnson & Johnson on their announcement of the expansion and the number of jobs at its facility in Castletroy. Once again it shows the confidence that the Vision Care company has in Limerick and the broad support and welcome it has received since arriving in Limerick.

“Through the assistance with IDA Ireland and the team in the Mid-West, Johnson & Johnson has shown us that the MedTech sector sees Limerick as an attractive location for such a volume of jobs. Collaboration with the state agencies and the local authority is a proven winner for companies, and long may those working relationships continue.”
