Mayor of Limerick City and County congratulates Tidy Towns Winners

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell, has today congratulated the Limerick winners at this year’s 2023 Tidy Towns competition.

This year, Limerick entries averaged a massive 10 point increase over 2022 marks, with 32 entries achieving double digit improvements! All Limerick entries also increased their marks over 2022. 

Mayor Mitchell said:

"This is a fantastic result and thoroughly deserved. I would like to congratulate all of the Tidy Towns volunteers across Limerick for their hard work and dedication. They make our communities more beautiful and liveable for everyone." 

The following Limerick entries won medals in the 2023 Tidy Towns competition: 

  • Gold: Adare (County winner) 
  • Bronze: Ardpatrick (county 3rd), Castleconnell, Galbally (county 2nd) and Limerick City Centre 
  • Endeavour Award: Glenroe 

In addition, Adare won the Circular Economy Award (€500), was Highly Commended in the Young Person in Tidy Towns Award (€1,000), and Ballysteen Askeaton Natural Herigtage won the Waters & Community Award (€500). 

The Mayor added:

"I am particularly pleased to see that Adare has won the Circular Economy Award and been Highly Commended in the Young Person in Tidy Towns Award. These awards demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and the importance of our young people in the Tidy Towns movement."

The Mayor concluded by thanking all of the volunteers, sponsors, and judges of the Tidy Towns competition. He said:

"The Tidy Towns competition is a wonderful way to celebrate the best of our communities. I am proud of the progress that Limerick has made in recent years, and I am confident that we will continue to go from strength to strength in the future."

The Tidy Towns competition is a national competition that recognises and rewards communities for their efforts to improve the physical appearance and environmental quality of their areas. The competition is judged on a wide range of criteria, including litter control, street cleaning, landscaping, and community involvement.
