The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon says the thoughts and prayers of the people of Limerick are with the families of those killed in the Manchester attack overnight.

“On behalf of the people of Limerick I would like to offer my condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones in the Manchester tragedy.”

“It is impossible to comprehend the shock and devastation being experienced by the people in Manchester as a result of the bombing overnight.”

“These people, many who were young, were out enjoying themselves, full of the joys of attending the concert when this atrocity happened.”

“I recently met with the then Mayor of Manchester Carl Austin-Behan as part of an arts and Culture delegation visit and was impressed by the vibrancy of the city and it welcoming people.”

“I hope this attack will not damage their spirit and friendliness.”

“I will be sending a letter to the current Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham, and the British Ambassador Robin Barnett, who was my guest at last month’s Mayor’s Ball, to express our horror at the attack and our support for the people of Manchester.”

“As a mark of respect I have instructed that the Irish flag be flown at half mast outside Limerick City and County Council corporate headquarters in Merchant’s Quay and Dooradoyle.”
