Limerick’s official Instagram page has won a prestigious Gold award at the National Social Media Awards or Sockies 2024, celebrating excellence in social media.

Managed by the Marketing and Communications team at Limerick City and County Council, Limerick.ie Instagram captivates audiences with engaging and compelling content that celebrate our amazing city and county’s unique charm while getting across key ‘destination Limerick’ messages.

Limerick.ie Instagram took home the Gold award in the Instagram State Body category following the Sockies 2024 awards ceremony in Dublin last night (Thursday 30 May 2024). The awards are open to businesses, public bodies, NGO’s and educational institutions.

A showcase of Limerick’s Trad Trail, a Bites on a Budget reel aimed at Limerick students and a celebration of Limerick Pride were among the many posts that helped to scoop the top award.

Head of Marketing and Communications at Limerick City and County Council, Donn O’Sullivan emphasised the importance of authenticity, saying,

“We are visual storytellers, and Instagram provides the perfect canvas to celebrate and promote our city and county. With each post, we seize the opportunity to further connect with the community. Our goal is to showcase the real Limerick. A Limerick that evokes powerful and positive emotions. I want to extend congratulations and appreciation to our skilled marketing team whose dedication and creativity brings this vision to life daily.”

In the Best Behaviour Change Campaign category at the Sockies 2024, Limerick City and County Council’s Limerick on Foot campaign won silver. The four-week, multi-platform #LimerickOnFoot campaign encouraged people to get outdoors and explore the many tracks and trails across Limerick. Targeting Limerick locals, visitors and residents of bordering counties, the campaign promoted a schedule of compelling and engaging still and video content across Limerick.ie social channels.

Limerick also secured a silver award for the Limerick Student City campaign in the Best Multi-Platform Campaign (In-House) category.

This campaign positions and promotes Limerick as an attractive option for prospective students. It also aims to engage with existing students to encourage them to explore all that Limerick has to offer and experience life off-campus.

The recognition at the Sockies Awards underscores Limerick City and County Council’s innovative approach to social media and a dedication to sharing and promoting our vibrant city and county through impactful storytelling.
