About the Local Sports Plan
The Local Sports Plan is being developed by Limerick City and County Council in partnership with Limerick Sports Partnership, with the aim of creating a shared vision for sport and physical activity across Limerick.
Under the Government’s National Sports Policy 2018–2027, Local Authorities are recognised as key stakeholders in promoting participation and providing public spaces and opportunities for sport and physical activity. In line with Action 8 of the policy, Sport Ireland has been tasked with supporting Local Authorities in the development of Local Sports Plans.
Limerick’s Local Sports Plan will reflect this national direction while addressing local needs. It will:
- Set out a clear vision and strategic priorities for sport and physical activity in Limerick
- Identify actions to increase participation across all ages, abilities, and communities
- Support clubs, volunteers, and community organisations
- Enhance access to facilities and inclusive opportunities
- Align with broader local and national policy objectives, including Healthy Limerick and the Limerick Development Plan
