Limerick City and County Council projects spanning housing, tourism, sustainability, community inclusion and cultural programming are being recognised at the 2026 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.
The Local Authority has been shortlisted in eight categories at the 2026 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards, highlighting the breadth and impact of projects being delivered across the city and county.
The awards, regarded as one of the most prestigious benchmarks of excellence in local government, recognise outstanding achievement and innovation by local authorities nationwide. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 26 November 2026.
Limerick City and County Council has been shortlisted for the following initiatives:
- Foynes to Limerick Road Scheme – Excess/Repurposed Material
- Askeaton Pool & Leisure Centre Energy Upgrade & Flood Remediation
- Rightsizing – Age Friendly Accommodation in Limerick
- Twilight Thursday – Limerick City
- Limerick - Ireland Home of Halloween Festival 2025
- Great Days Out (in Limerick) Summer Tourism Campaign
- Dance Connections – An Inclusive Dance Artists Training Project
- The Val the Viking Project
The nominations reflect the Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable and community-focused projects that enhance quality of life, support economic growth, celebrate culture and heritage, and strengthen Limerick’s reputation as a place to live, work, visit and invest.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, welcomed the national recognition, saying:

The Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards celebrate best practice and innovation across Ireland’s local government sector, recognising projects that deliver tangible benefits for citizens and communities.
Limerick City and County Council’s eight shortlisting’s place it among the leading local authorities nationally, with the winners set to be announced at the awards ceremony on 26 November 2026.
