Limerick Smarter Travel and Limerick Pipe Organ Festival have joined forces to create the Pedal Power Heritage Tours. This event forms part of the Heritage Week celebrations taking place from the 20th to the 28th of August with over 1,800 events, large and small, planned across the country.

Limerick Smarter Travel and Limerick Pipe Organ Festival have joined forces to create the Pedal Power Heritage Tours. This event forms part of the Heritage Week celebrations taking place from the 20th to the 28th of August with over 1,800 events, large and small, planned across the country.

Adding to this rich mix is Pedal Power family-friendly heritage tours with a difference. They will allow you to experience the power of the organs, hear long-lost stories from local people at each historic place, and see the city like you've possibly never seen it before!

Follow the historic trail of churches and cathedrals around Limerick on foot, by bike or shared travel. The routes have been planned so you can use the city bikes and pedal your way from venue to venue. Individuals with reduced mobility are welcome; contact the organisers for further information. Admission is free however booking is essential.

Peter Barley, Organist at Saint Mary’s Cathedral and Committee Member with Limerick Pipe Organ Festival commented: “We hope to see as many people as possible out and about enjoyed a fun-filled Pedal Power heritage tours which will showcase eight historic cathedrals and churches.”

“At each historic place hear the organs play and listen to hidden tales from passionate local custodians. The Pedal Power heritage tours will be follows by ice-cream in much loved historic Limerick locations,” he added.

Miriam O’Donoghue, Project Manager with Limerick Smarter Travel highlighted the importance of our choice of travel to our overall experience of this event.

“Heritage Week celebrates Ireland’s built, natural and cultural heritage. This year we have collaborated with the team from the Limerick Pipe Organ Festival to create a family-friendly event with a difference. Walk, cycle or share your travel to get the most out of this unique tour. Limerick Smarter Travel, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport, is delighted to be involved with the event, which promotes cycling as a mode of transport.”
