There is a feast of festive fun happening around County Limerick this Christmas season. Towns and villages throughout Limerick are getting into the Christmas spirit with a host of different events taking place between now and the ‘big’ day.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with key towns of Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, Rathkeale, Kilmallock and Adare already having switched on their lights to mark the start the festive season.
Among the events taking place this December in County Limerick include:
Newcastle West: A Christmas Winter Village with Santa at the Longcourt House Hotel. Festive cheer is in the air in Newcastle West as local artisan traders showcase wonderful handmade crafts, sumptuous food and seasonal treats for all to enjoy! Open daily until 23 December.
Rathkeale: Breakfast with Santa at Rathkeale House Hotel. Treat the whole family young and old to a very special breakfast with Santa Claus. Saturday 12, Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 December.
Lough Gur: Spirit of Place. Explore our connection to place, Lough Gur's magnetic qualities and our recent and increased return to ancient places of worship. Online Tuesday 15 December.
Ballyneety: Ballyneety Outdoor Christmas Farmer's Market. Come and enjoy the festive atmosphere, live music, mulled wine and mince pies with lots of treats in store for all the family. Sunday 20 December.
Caherconlish: Christmas Crafts in the Millennium Centre. Browse and buy locally made crafts this Christmas. Wednesdays 09 & 16 December.
Ballyhoura: A Family Woodland Walk and Winter Bauble Hunt competition for the kids. Fresh air and adventure with Ballyhoura's newest trail. Saturday, 19 December.
Castleconnell: Christmas Choir Night at the Castle Oaks. Join the Rolling Tones Rock Choir for an evening of mulled wine, mince pies and of course Christmas Carols. Saturday, 19 December.
After a tough year for many shops across the county, due to the pandemic, it is more important than ever to get behind our local businesses. Why not make an extra effort to support our home-grown stores and shop local this year?
Local artists, crafters and bakers will showcase their creativity in the lead up to Christmas. Grab a hot chocolate, wander around the shops and choose from local handcrafted gifts, artisan produce and home baking and support your local traders.
To help make shopping local easier in Abbeyfeale, Kilmallock and Newcastle West, shoppers will get an extra two hours free parking in each of the towns from 2.30pm Monday to Friday from 12-24 Dec inclusive. This is in addition to the first hour free, while parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays.
For those who may not be able to get to the shops in person in the run up to Christmas, Limerick.ie/Shop is a one-stop destination where you can connect with and support local stores and shop safely from the comfort of your own home. The online platform allows hundreds of Limerick retailers to showcase their offering and provides shoppers with the opportunity to give a little bit of Limerick this Christmas.
