Communities across Limerick City are set to benefit from a significant investment, as 53 local organisations receive a combined €1.45 million in funding through the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s Economic and Social Intervention Fund (ESIF).
A total of 100 projects delivered through the 53 organisations will receive vital financial support under the Economic and Social Intervention Fund (ESIF), a cornerstone of the Limerick Regeneration Programme.
These ESIF-backed initiatives work hand-in-hand with local communities to enhance quality of life and foster pride of place by delivering a wide range of services and supports.
Since its inception, the Economic and Social Intervention Fund has been a driving force behind social and economic regeneration in Limerick. It has enabled the creation of new services tailored to evolving community needs, while also providing core funding for community hubs.
Backed by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, this support has empowered organisations and residents to collaborate and achieve meaningful progress in key areas such as employment, education, and community safety.
The following themes are a focus for Projects supported by ESIF:
- Education and Learning
- Health, Wellbeing and Ageing Well
- Employability and Work
- Families and Youth at Risk
- Community Development and Safety
Commenting on the news Mayor of Limerick, John Moran says:
“This fund is about transforming lives across Limerick. It supports practical action that opens the doors to equal opportunity for all, which is a key pillar in the More for Limerick mayoral programme. We are conscious that the ESIF funding model as we’ve known it is undergoing a review and our officials are continuing to engage with the Department on what this funding model will look like in the future. I want to thank the Department for sharing our confidence in Limerick, as well as the dedicated Regeneration team here in Limerick City and County Council who are working to improve lives every day.”
Príomh Comhairleoir of Limerick, Cllr. Catherine Slattery added:
"I see first-hand the difference this funding makes in our communities every single day. It is keeping vital projects alive that support families, young people, and older residents. These initiatives give people hope, create opportunities, and strengthen the sense of belonging in our regeneration areas. Without this funding, many of these services would simply disappear. It is the backbone of positive change in Limerick."
Director of Regeneration, Community, Sports and Rural Development at Limerick City and County Council, Brian McCarthy added:
“We very much welcome this €1.45 million investment, which will deliver tangible benefits for communities across in our Regeneration areas in Limerick City. The Economic and Social Intervention Fund has been a vital support for locally led regeneration, enabling community organisations to respond to real social and economic needs, and its positive impact on communities is clearly evident. Limerick City and County Council will continue to work closely with partners to ensure this essential investment delivers sustainable lasting outcomes.”
