Culture Night 2023 will take place this year on Friday 22nd September, and Limerick artists and cultural organisations are excited about a full programme of events taking place across Limerick city and county!
Limerick Arts Office at Limerick City and County Council are delighted to showcase the wealth of culture that Limerick has to offer creating a night for everyone to enjoy, from the young to young at heart.
Culture Night is a chance to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our city and county by inviting existing and new audiences into our galleries, museums, workshops and studios.
At the centre of the programme are two late night events. At King John’s Castle there will be a live music concert featuring the best of local and national live electronic music.
This Culture Night Late event is being produced by Limerick Arts Office in association with SIONNA Festival.
This is the third year of this free live late-night event and features a diverse range of live acts including Spray, B2B, Holly Lester, Chaz Maloney, Brawni and Bon Voyage.
For the second late night event Top 8 Culture Night is hosting Limerick based DJ CC, World Scratching Champion DJ Flip and Saxophonist TK SAX at an event that starts in Dance Limerick.
Dance performances will be infused throughout the event from Irish dance to the social dance moves of Hip Hop and Break Dance, to the rhythmic body movements of Afro fusion and freestyle movements of All Styles.
The event and will then move to the Record Room at the Commercial Bar and carry on into the wee hours. A Saxophonist, local DJs and invited DJs provide the very best in music to bring the night to a close.
Elsewhere there are live hubs of activity at the Hunt Museum and Milk Market. The Hunt Museum will host the opening of an interactive exhibition on Culture, Climate, Community and Change and a live broadcast of Lorcan Murray’s Classic Drive. They will also feature a live dance and music performance alongside a short film screening from Yonit Kosovske and Polish Arts Festival Elemental Tales 2.
The Milk Market will host the Limerick Food Group who are launching their Pigtown Culture & Food Series with a mask-making workshop and a display of their Giant Pig after it parades through the town with their family pig floats. They will also host live music and a petting farm for kids and families.
The county will see more events than ever this year with activities in Cappamore, Kilmallock, Croom, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale to highlight just a few of the county towns and villages taking part for 2023.
In Newcastle West, the local Foroige Group will be taking part in an evening of taster workshops in different craft and activities for young peoples and there will be music and exhibitions in the Red Door Gallery.
In Garryspillane there will be an evening of traditional music and dance at the Glenbrohane community hall with Ceol, Caint agus Craic.
Community resource organisations are also getting in on the fun with HEADWAY Acquired Brain Injury Service opening their doors for an exhibition of clients work.
