Limerick City and County Council’s severe weather assessment team have convened this morning to discuss the ongoing weather situation in Limerick.
A significant thaw has set in across the city and county as temperatures go above zero degrees, however areas of the south and east of Limerick continue to have large accumulations of snow.
A snow ploughing and salting programme is being concentrated in these areas e.g Abbeyfeale, Mountcollins, Tournafulla, Castletown, Ballyagran, Ballyorgan, Glenroe, Galbally and Anglesboro.
JCBs are also being deployed to help in the road clearing efforts with priority given to school routes as they are expected to re-open tomorrow.
For any water issues, e.g. leaks, loss of water, dirty water, sewage issues, the council is advising people to contact Irish Water on 1850 278 278 or check their website www.water.ie.
The council is also reminding people of Irish Water’s appeal not to leave taps running, or unnecessarily waste water and to check vacant properties for water leaks.
Essential services will continue to be provided and the council can be contacted for out of hours emergencies on 061 417833.
The Limerick Homeless Action Team (LHAT) is continuing to liaise with the emergency housing providers and additional capacity has been made available to anyone who may seek assistance over the period of severe weather.
