Deadline for inclusion in printed brochure looms

Limerick City and County Council is to receive €15,000 to help stage Culture Night 2017, an increase on the funding granted last year.

In total the government is allocated €190,000 to local authorities across the country.

Culture Night has become one of the most popular nights in the country and Limerick is no exception.

Last year Limerick hosted 118 events in 76 locations across the city and county enthralling an audience of 18,500 people.

Culture Night is always great fun and offers a great opportunity for us as a region to showcase the wealth of unique culture that Limerick has to offer.

It is a night to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our city and county by inviting existing and new audiences into galleries, museums, workshops and studios and community spaces.

Culture Night 2017 is fast approaching and if you would like to register your Culture Night event in the brochure, the closing date is this Friday (14th July 2017) at 5.pm.

If you are a cultural organisation or a group with a cultural offer who are in a position to organise a Culture Night event, Limerick Arts Office will be there to support your involvement in this very popular national initiative.  Support includes merchandise, brochures and online promotion of events.

Culture Night 1

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Stephen Keary said: “Culture and the Arts are becoming an increasingly important part of the fabric of Limerick life. The value of culture to our local community is invaluable.”

“Culture Night is an ideal opportunity for groups to showcase their work and I’m calling on all organisations to engage with Limerick Arts Office in making Culture Night 2017 in Limerick the best ever.”

Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys said: “Culture Night continues to be one of the most successful and magical evenings in the calendar where venues open their doors free of charge and the streets are filled with spectacular performances of culture and creativity.”

“The evening dovetails with the Creative Ireland Programme which aims to increase access to and participation in cultural activity in every county. It is my strong belief that if we want to achieve this we need to ensure local events throughout the evening of Friday 22nd September are supported.”

Josephine Cotter Coughlan, Director of Culture and the Arts with Limerick City and County Council said: “Culture Night is a great opportunity for all the citizens of Limerick to experience some of the many cultural activities taking place across the city and county, some perhaps for the first time.”

Culture Night 2

Sheila Deegan, Arts and Culture Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “Local groups and organisations have really taken the spirit and aim of Culture Night under their wing. They see the value in opening their doors to the people of Limerick, many for the first time”

“The government has allocated additional funding to Limerick City and County Council this year to build of the great success that Culture Night has become across the city and county.”

“I would encourage all cultural organisations and communities with a cultural offer to get in contact with Limerick Arts Office ahead of the deadline so that they can be included in this wonderful occasion.”

Each year a Limerick Culture Night Brochure, listing all of the events and venues opening times is published. To be included in this brochure, please complete and return the Culture Night event registration form by Friday 14 July 2017.

Your event will also be listed on the national Culture Night website: www.CultureNight.ie.

Remember, one of the key aspects of Culture Night is that events must be free of charge.

Culture Night will take place on Friday 22 September from 5pm-11pm, so it’s time to start planning your events and activities for the Limerick region!
