The 12th annual Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival takes place from Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th May, with over 130 free events and activities taking place throughout the city and county.
This year’s theme is Learn Something New in 2022, and sees the welcome return of in-person events, along with online and hybrid experiences. With such ample variety, there is sure to be something for everyone to choose from.
Events include Art, Cookery, Early Childhood Development and Family Learning Activities, Guided Tours, Panel Discussions, Enterprise, IT Skills, Language Taster Sessions, Wellness Clinics, Job Seeking Skills and Career Guidance, to mention but a few, with many more taking place over the week.
This year’s flagship event is a celebration of UNESCO Learning Cities and takes place in the University of Limerick City Campus, Sarsfield Street on Thursday 26 May. Featuring guest speakers from Learning City partners of the Irish Network of Learning Cities, this promises to be a fantastic opportunity to showcase Limerick’s enthusiasm and commitment in promoting and providing second chance and inclusive learning for all.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr. Daniel Butler said: “I’ve no doubt that the list of events taking place over the week of the festival will be of interest to people in communities the length and breadth of Limerick city and county, and of course further afield. I invite you all to take on this learning challenge. What are you going to learn this year? Perhaps take up a new hobby or skill and further your lifelong learning journey. The Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival has something for everyone.”
Eimear Brophy, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, and Chair of Learning Limerick Steering Group said: “As a UNESCO Learning City-Region we want to encourage and promote lifelong learning to all our citizens across all age groups and sectors throughout the region. Whether you are learning to develop skills or to grow your career, the festival celebrates lifelong learning and can have a real impact on both your professional and personal development.
“We are looking forward to returning to in-person events this year and having a hybrid festival, including both face-to-face and online events. It is this networking and connecting that is key. Indeed, the festival has been very successful in connecting with learners and learning providers right across the region.”
