Limerick City and County Council has been allocated more than €24m for Active Travel in 2022 by the National Transport Authority. The funding will be used to further expand and improve Limerick’s walking and cycling infrastructure.

This investment will allow the Active Travel team in Limerick to progress its work on a number of key pedestrian and cycling projects including:

  • Mill Road, Corbally Pedestrian and Cyclist Measures
  • Dooradoyle to City Centre Cycle Route
  • UL to National Technology Park, Plassey Cycleway
  • Funding has also been allocated for projects in rural communities that will result in improved accessibility.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Daniel Butler said: “Investing in our walking and cycling infrastructure is making Limerick a greener and more liveable place. In 2021, we saw how communities right across the city and county embraced Active Travel measures and this funding for 2022 means even more of us will see the benefits sustainable travel can have on our lives.”

Brian Kennedy, Director of Transportation and Mobility with Limerick City and County Council said: “This announcement is another sign of the strong partnership between the Active Travel team at Limerick City and County Council and the NTA.
