The story of Thurgood Marshall, the crusading lawyer who would become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he flights one of his career-defining cases.
In 1940, Marshall is an NAACP lawyer travelling around the USA defending people of colour who are wrongly accused of crimes because of racial prejudice. In conservative Connecticut, Marshall faces prejudice himself, and he is forbidden from speaking during the trial, forcing him to enlist the help of Samuel Friedman, a young Jewish lawyer on his first criminal case. This landmark case defined both men’s careers, and had a profound impact on the US justice system.
