  • Guided Tour Of Newcastle West

The Architectural Conservation Team at Limerick City and County Council is delighted to invite you to a guided tour celebrating the rich built and cultural heritage of Newcastle West.

Explore the rich architectural history of Newcastle West with the Wonder Wander Walking Trails, created by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage in collaboration with the Limerick City and County Council. The trail invites you to discover the vibrant streetscapes of the Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) in the heart of Newcastle West. The trail celebrates the unique architectural heritage and sense of place, offering a chance to explore the diverse history and evolution of the town.

The tour will continue with a guided group tour of the Desmond Castle. This 12th century Castle, built by the Fitzgerald Family, is a central landmark within Newcastle West and an integral part of the history of the town. The two-storey banqueting hall is one of the most impressive surviving medieval halls.
