Perms, Updos, Bobs and Shaved Heads - Oícheanta ag Músaem an Hunt | Hunt Museum Nights

Thursday 6th August @ 7pm

Katie Blackwood presents – Perms, Updos, Bobs and Shaved Heads: Women and their Hairstyles in 20th century Ireland.

Hairstyles can tell us a lot about the past. Female beauty practices have often been viewed as trivial and inconsequential.

However, the hairstyles we choose reflect the culture we live in and how we see ourselves in it.

This talk delves into the hairstyles worn by women in Ireland between 1900-1960. It charts the underlying importance and power of hair. And it explores how hair fashions reflect the wider political, social and economic issues that women faced in twentieth century Ireland.
