Limerick City and County Council Welcomes HSE Acquisition of 44-Acre Site in Raheen for Major Health Infrastructure Development

Limerick City and County Council welcomes the announcement that the Health Service Executive (HSE) is to acquire a 44-acre site in Raheen to support the expansion of hospital services for Limerick and the wider Mid-West region.

It represents a significant step forward in addressing long-standing capacity challenges in the region’s healthcare system and will enable the development of critical new healthcare infrastructure to support a growing population.

Limerick City and County Council reaffirms its commitment to working closely with the HSE, the Department of Health and all relevant stakeholders to support the planning and delivery of this important project.

Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill confirmed Government approval of the acquisition during a visit to Limerick today, saying it will 

“provide a significant opportunity to provide meaningful additional capacity and health services to the people of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.” 

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery commented:

“This is a very welcome and important development for Limerick and the entire Mid-West region. Expanding healthcare capacity has been a priority for our communities for many years. The acquisition of this site in Raheen marks a significant milestone towards delivering the additional hospital infrastructure our region urgently needs.”

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly added:

“This announcement represents a major strategic investment in the future of healthcare in Limerick and the Mid-West. The Council is committed to supporting the HSE as they move forward with planning and development for this site. This project will play a vital role in strengthening healthcare capacity and supporting the continued growth of our region.”

Limerick City and County Council looks forward to continuing engagement with the HSE as the project progresses through the next stages of planning and development.
