Town and Village Renewal Scheme: Limerick City and County Council Welcomes €900k Funding for Projects in Cappamore, Croom, Athea and Adare

Limerick City and County Council welcomes today’s announcement by Minister Dara Calleary, Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, of almost €900,000 in funding for Limerick under the 2025 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

Projects in Cappamore and Croom were approved for funding under the Project Development Measure, and projects in Athea and Adare were approved for funding under the Main Scheme.

Cappamore

Development of a fully designed plan for a large-scale Multi-Use Community Green Space, including site assessments, stakeholder engagement, design work, planning preparation and cost planning.

Croom

Design and progression to planning of public realm improvements to the open area “market square” in the centre of Croom Village and the redevelopment of the adjacent former Post Office building. 

€50,000

Athea Community Council Building project to redevelop prominent village-centre building into a modern, energy-efficient hub with meeting spaces, workshop, and accessible facilities to support local groups and sustainable rural regeneration.

Public realm enhancement project in Adare village focusing on improved access for the local community and visitors.

€300,000

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, welcomed the funding, saying:

“Keeping rural communities vibrant is key to Limerick’s success. This funding is really encouraging and a great reflection of the hard work being done on the ground. I want to recognise the volunteers, community groups, and council staff whose dedication helps keep rural Limerick thriving.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery added:

“The projects supported under this year’s scheme in Cappamore, Croom, Athea and Adare will deliver long-term benefits, improving public spaces, community facilities and overall quality of life. I congratulate each community involved and look forward to seeing these plans progress.”

From early-stage design work to large-scale regeneration, these investments will help deliver tangible improvements for the people who live in, work in and visit these rural towns and villages.”
