Limerick City and County Council Welcomes Munster Final Showdown at TUS Gaelic Grounds

Limerick is set to come alive this weekend as the Treaty County prepares to host rivals Cork in what promises to be a thrilling Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

The match throws in at 6pm on Saturday 7th June, and with a capacity crowd of 43,000 expected, the atmosphere in the city will be electric before and after the hotly anticipated fixture. 

Limerick City and County Council extends a warm welcome to all supporters and offers some advice to help you make the most of the occasion and ensure the safe enjoyment of this unforgettable sporting event. 

Advice to Supporters 

  • Familiarise yourself with the LCCC road closure notice and the Garda Traffic Management Plan (see below). 
  • Use the additional bins provided by LCCC to help keep our city clean. 
  • Park in the city and enjoy the pre-match buzz before walking to the stadium. 
  • Be respectful to fellow supporters, local residents, and property. 
  • Support your team with pride and enjoy the day in the spirit of sportsmanship. 
  • Be weather-wise: Stay sun smart but bring a rain jacket—this is Ireland, after all! 
  • Make a day of it: Visit Limerick.ie to discover things to see and do before and after the match. 
  • Stay safe and hydrated: Bring water, wear sunscreen, and take breaks in shaded areas. 

An Garda Síochána are also reminding all patrons attending the Munster Final: 

  • The possession or use of flares and smoke bombs is strictly prohibited.  
  • Intoxicated individuals will be denied entry to the grounds. 
  • Do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle—secure them before arriving.  
  • With large crowds expected, parents and guardians are advised to keep a close eye on children at all times.

Traffic and Road Closures 

Limerick City and County Council advise motorists and match patrons that significant road closures and diversions will be in place from 2pm on Saturday, 7 June, in the vicinity of the TUS Gaelic Grounds.  

Key routes including Sarsfield Bridge, Shelbourne Road, and sections of the Ennis Road will be closed to vehicular traffic, with diversions via the Northern Ring Road, Clonmacken, Shannon Bridge, and Thomond Bridge. Residential and emergency access will be maintained where possible. Supporters are strongly encouraged to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time for travel.

Park and Stride 

Supporters are advised to arrive early to secure parking. Park in the city and make the most of the pre-match atmosphere before walking to the stadium. There are over 9,000 designated car parking spaces in Limerick City, over 4,000 on-street and over 5,000 in privately operated car parks.

Garda Policing and Traffic Management Plan  

The following is the Garda Traffic Management Plan to cater for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final, Limerick versus Cork at 6pm on Saturday 7th June 2025 at the T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds, Ennis Road, Limerick City.  

A capacity crowd of 43,000 is expected to attend the games, which will cause traffic disruption in Limerick City and approach roads to the city. To maximise everyone’s enjoyment of the day Garda advice to patrons is to arrive in plenty of time, to park cars legally, i.e. not causing obstruction, not parking on green areas or at locations where parking is prohibited. Cars illegally parked will be ticketed and those causing obstruction are likely to be towed away by Gardai.  

Patrons are advised to strongly consider parking in the nearby city centre car parks and walk out to the stadium as this will save them considerable time in their journeys home after the game. 

If you are driving to the match the Gardaí would appeal to patrons to keep to the speed limits, never “Drink & Drive”, “Text & Drive” or “Phone & Drive 

Motorists using Limerick Tunnel should consider using the main toll plaza, continue on the N18 to Exit 5 (Portdrine/Cratloe, take the N18 fly-over and take the Limerick Southern Ring Road to the Caherdavin Exit (R445) and utilise Ennis Road. 

Closures/Diversions: 

Road Closures/diversions will apply from 2pm onwards at the following locations: 

  • Sarsfield Bridge will be closed to outbound traffic.  Motorists will be diverted at the junction of Henry Street and Sarsfield Street. 
  • Condell Road/Shelbourne Rd Lower junction.  No traffic will be permitted to turn right off Condell Road onto Shelbourne Road. 
  • Clancy Strand/High Road.  No traffic permitted onto Clancy Strand off High Road 
  • Belfield Court/High Road.  Only residential traffic permitted onto Belfield Court off High Road. 
  • Stenson Park/Sexton Street North. Only residential traffic permitted into Stenson Park off Sexton Street North. 
  • Hassetts Cross/Shelbourne Rd junction.  No traffic will be permitted onto Shelbourne Rd at Hassetts Cross.  Traffic will be diverted to Cratloe Rd and Sexton St North 
  • Ennis Rd. At its junction with Ivan’s Cross – traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken Road 
  • Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction – Road Closure 
  • Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue – Road Closure  
  • Union Cross – traffic will be diverted to Shelbourne Rd  
  • Shelbourne Pk./Shelbourne Road – Road Closure 
  • Shelbourne Rd./Mayorstone Drive – Road Closure  
  • Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Avenue – Road Closure.  
  • Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper – Road Closure.  
  • Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper & T.U.S Roundabout (Merval Pk.) – Road Closure.  
  • Ennis Road/Derravarragh Road – only local residents permitted 
Munster Hurling Final Map

Parking: 

  • Motorists are advised to park in the city centre and walk to T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds (30 minutes) 
  • Parking available at city centre carparks and on street parking 
  • Disability parking passes for T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds only available through Limerick or Cork G.A.A. County Boards.  
  • Ennis Road from Sarsfield Bridge to Caherdavin Cross (Ivans) will be closed from 2pm 
  • Shelbourne Rd from Hassetts Cross to Condell Road will be closed from 2pm 
  • Parking will be available at different locations on the Ennis Road between Coonagh roundabout and Caherdavin Cross. 
  • Parking will also be available at T.U.S. Campus, Old Cratloe Road 
  • There is no specific bus or coach parking around T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds.  Coaches must not be parked in a manner which may lead to disruption.  Cratloe Road and Condell Road should be used for drop off and collection. Alternatively, coaches should park in coach parking areas in the city centre and patrons walk to the grounds. 

After Game Traffic Management 

  • Priority will be given to patrons exiting T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds after the game 
  • Ennis Road will be closed from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross 
  • Two lanes of traffic will operate outbound on the Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout 
  • All outbound traffic on Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout will be directed out the R445 to the N18 and to take Exit 5 Portdrine/Cratloe, take flyover and Limerick Southern Ring Road back to Tunnel Toll Plaza and on to the Limerick Tunnel 
  • Condell Road will be closed to inbound traffic at Coonagh roundabout. 
  • Traffic on Clonmacken Road will be directed towards Clonmacken Road roundabout and Condell Road and will use Toll Plaza or Condell Road to Shannon Bridge 
  • Inbound traffic on Ennis Road will use Sarsfield Bridge to Limerick City centre 
  • Inbound traffic on Cratloe Road will use Sexton Street North to Thomond Bridge to Island Road to Dublin Road and Limerick City centre. 

FLARES/SMOKE BOMBS/INTOXICATION 

  • Patrons attending the match are reminded that Stadium Regulations prohibit the possession of smoke bombs and flares in the grounds.  Patrons may be denied entry if found in possession of same. 
  • The lighting of smoke bombs or flares is an offence and any person found lighting same in the stadium will be ejected from the grounds and may face criminal prosecution. 
  • Intoxicated patrons will be denied entry to the grounds 

Crime Prevention Advice 

An Garda Síochána would like all patrons travelling to the game to have a safe trip so the here are a few tips for those travelling to the match  

  • Don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle and if you must, keep them out of view.  This should be done before you get to your destination.   
  • There will be large crowds at the match so parents should exercise caution and be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times.
