Limerick Voice launches its new 2020 online news platform with an innovative video featuring student reporters working from home. Limerick Voice is a student-run digital news project, managed by journalism students in the University of Limerick.
Running since 2008, Limerick Voice has always aimed to tell stories from the heart of Limerick. The news site offers a fresh, youthful perspective on stories affecting the Limerick community, not just reporting the facts, but actively reflecting the interests of their readership in every article, podcast and video.
Digital Editor Mike Finnerty said: “We’re out to create a news website that’s the first port of call for the Limerick region. There’s always a million and one stories to be told.”
The mission statement for Limerick Voice 2020, “When Limerick speaks, we listen”, illustrates the connection Limerick Voice 2020 wants to create with its community. This is the first time the news project will run throughout the whole year, as opposed to the usual 10 weeks, yet despite the shift to a remote working model this year, Limerick Voice aims to keep audiences engaged with its most comprehensive content strategy to date. Limerick Voice 2020 is bringing the sights and sounds of Limerick to life through virtual storytelling, both visual and aural.
The Limerick Voice logo redesign illustrates how our reporters represent a new wave of news but remain dedicated to delivering high quality content.
Some of the highlights for 2020 include the following new series:
- 'For Limerick, Buy Limerick’ - aimed at promoting local businesses
- #InOurHands - a regular series on frontline workers
- 'Unheard Limerick Voices' - regular feature on Limerick’s marginalised communities
