With the tradition of rowing in Limerick stretching as far back as the 1860's, and spectator numbers of 15,000 in attendance at the first official regatta in 1870, it is the longest surviving sporting fixture in the city.

Shannon Rowing Club, based on Sarfield Bridge, Limerick, is the oldest rowing club in Limerick City. On weekends and bright evenings, their activities move to the Mulcair River in Annacotty, a tributary of the River Shannon, to avail of a fantastic stretch of water, ideal for rowing as it is sheltered and non-tidal.

St. Michael's Rowing Club is one of Ireland's premier rowing clubs. It caters for members from Junior 12 to the more experienced 'Masters', some of whom are 60+ years young! Both competitive and less strenuous pleasure-rowing takes place throughout the year.
