The Haselbeck family lived on Wolfe Tone Street and ran a sausage making business in John Square. Franz was artistic and had little interest in the family business. He graduated from the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art in 1904 before working as apprentice to a number of photographers throughout Ireland. He then returned to Limerick where he set up a studio and worked as a freelance press photographer from 1912 until his death in 1973.
