The Granagh Players Present: A Holy Show

Friday 6th February @ 8pm
  • A Holy Show 810 x 456

The Granagh Players return to the stage with their 2026 production, A Holy Show, a comedy by Pádraic McIntyre, adapted by the group and directed by Jimmy Sheehy.

Set in a familiar rural setting, the play centres around a local pub and the mix of characters who pass through it — from long-time regulars and lively clerics to a group of women setting off on a much-needed weekend away. As renovations, fundraising efforts, and social gatherings unfold, so too do the stories, secrets, and tensions that bind the community together.

True to McIntyre’s style, A Holy Show blends sharp humour with recognisable situations and characters, capturing rural life with wit. While packed with laughs, the play also touches on relationships, change, and the pressures faced by small communities.

The production is directed by Jimmy Sheehy, recent winner of the Volunteer Ireland Award in the Arts and Culture category, who brings his experienced and sensitive directorial touch to the piece. Speaking about the play, Jimmy explains:

“It’s the story of a wealthy publican with a roving eye who has engaged a crack team of local builders — I mean a cracked team of local builders — and who then must contend with a drink-fuelled group of department store women looking for a good time on the opening night of The Granagh Inn. The night is made even more chaotic by a talent contest celebrating the pub’s new renovations.”

Granagh Players have built a strong reputation for bringing high-quality, community-centred theatre to local audiences, and A Holy Show promises to be another highly enjoyable night out filled with laughs, recognisable characters and lively musical moments.
