Originally launched in November 2025 as part of a community engagement programme, delivered in partnership with Limerick Libraries, Val the Viking quickly captured the imagination of children and families across the city and county. Now Val is on a new adventure, as Limerick’s mascot and proudest ambassador, supporting promotional campaigns, tourism initiatives, events and celebrations and creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

A 1,000-year-old time traveller, an inquisitive explorer, and Limerick’s fiercely proud, self-appointed champion. Val doesn't just live in Limerick. He is its #1 fan.
Every landmark is a wonder. Every green and white flag deserves a salute. Every new friend is a fellow clan member.
He may still be figuring out the modern world, but one thing is certain: Val has found where he belongs.
