L.A.C.E. - Music Strand

The music scene in Limerick is incredibly diverse and vibrant and musicians from all genres enjoy support from a really knowledgeable audience.

Limerick Jazz Festival 2016

This is a city where musical styles flourish within their own right but also where collaboration and fusion are positively encouraged and explored.

Our many venues attract performers of international stature in all genres: University Concert Hall, Lime Tree Theatre, St Mary’s Cathedral, Dolan’s Warehouse, the Big Top and King John’s Castle, to name but a few.

These and many other venues also play host to a multitude of music festivals annually including the Limerick Jazz Festival, Limerick Choral Festival, Limerick Sings, Make a Move Festival, Blas International Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and DanceLimerick Pipe Organ Festival, L.I.T. Music Technology Music Festival and many, many more.

We are very proud of our many music education establishments including the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick Institute of Technology, Limerick School of Music, Redemptorist Centre of Music as well as Music Generation Limerick all of which work frequently in partnership with each other to bring Music in its many forms to the citizens of Limerick.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra is based in Limerick and enjoys a world-class reputation in addition to its wonderful outreach programme through Sing out with Strings. Ireland’s only dedicated Classical Music Radio station (RTE Lyric FM) is based in Limerick!

There are very many organisations that run very successful high-level amateur performing groups in the city, including musical societies, choirs, orchestras and bands, continuing a long and rich history of music-making in Limerick City and surrounds.
