L.A.C.E. - Literature Strand

Literature has always been a vibrant part of the cultural life of the city and county of Limerick. A look at some of those who have been successful includes Pulitzer Prize winner, Frank McCourt, together with novelists Kate O’Brien and Michael Curtin. More recently, Kevin Barry and Donal Ryan have also been award winners.

Poets such as Michael Hogan, Desmond O’Grady, Michael Hartnett and John Liddy have contributed significantly to our literary heritage while we have a wonderful group of contemporary poets in our community who read regularly at one of the well-established Literary Gatherings, such as the monthly ‘On the Nail’ Literary Gathering.

As we move into a new era of cultural awareness, this snapshot indicates how important the world of literature, of reading, writing and using words is in our community. The quality of this creative activity is something of which Limerick can be very proud.

We invite all practitioners, enthusiasts, in the world of words to join us!
