Limerick City and County Council to host homecoming event for WBO Middleweight World Champion Andy Lee

Limerick City and County Council has announced that a homecoming event will take place this Wednesday, 17th December 2014 to welcome home WBO Middleweight World Champion Boxer Andy Lee to Limerick.

A civic reception will take place in Limerick City and County Council, Merchant’s Quay at 4.30pm on Wednesday, 17th December to recognise the achievements of Andy Lee before a public homecoming will take place on the steps of City Hall at 5.30pm.

Congratulating Andy Lee, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kevin Sheahan, said Limerick is looking forward to welcoming home its new WBO Middleweight World Champion.

“Andy Lee is our first world boxing champion and we’re thrilled with his success,” Mayor Kevin Sheahan said. “Since his early days as an amateur boxer with the St Francis Boxing Club in the city to bringing home the WBO Middleweight World Champion title from Las Vegas over the weekend, we are immensely proud of his achievements. I would like to say a huge congratulations to Andy and I know the people of  Limerick will turn out in their droves to welcome him back home this Wednesday.”
