Inspections of Dog Licences to begin

  • Limerick City and County Council

Dog Wardens with Limerick City and County Council are to begin a programme of inspections of dog licences throughout the city and county shortly.

Dog owners will be required, on request, to produce a dog licence for their animal.

John McCarthy, Veterinary Inspector with Limerick City and County Council said: “Under the Control of Dogs Act 1986 it is unlawful for a person to keep a dog without a dog licence. Please note that persons found in ownership of a dog for which they do not have a licence may be liable for a fine of €100.”

A dog licence costs €20 and can be bought at Limerick City and County Council offices at Merchants Quay, Dooradoyle, or any Limerick City and County Council Area Office.

They can also be purchased at any Post Office, and online at http://doglicence.limerick.ie/.
