Thomas appointment a 'major coup' for Shannon Group plc – Mayor

  • Limerick City and County Council

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr. Liam Galvin has described the appointment of Matthew Thomas as Chief Executive of Shannon Group plc as a 'major coup' for the organisation.

Mayor Galvin said Mr. Thomas' "vast experience" in the aviation sector and his record of delivering commercial growth at various airports will be instrumental in delivering new business and commercial growth opportunities for Shannon Group plc.

He said, "Shannon Airport has recorded total passenger growth of 22% since its separation from the Dublin Airport Authority and since the formal establishment of Shannon Group plc. This is a remarkable achievement, of which Mr. Thomas' predecessor Neil Pakey was instrumental. Mr. Thomas can now assume his role with confidence at a time when further passenger growth and route development remains a key priority for Shannon Airport."

Mayor Galvin noted that Mr Thomas' appointment takes place at a critical juncture in Shannon Group plc's development.

"The Group this year embarked on a five-year €60m capital programme to address historical infrastructure deficits at Shannon Airport, at Shannon Commercial Properties and Shannon Heritage. Mr. Thomas' impressive track record in delivering commercial success for airport authorities around the world bodes well for the successful and full implementation of this ambitious capital programme," said the Mayor.
