  • Crowds enjoying the Dancing the Walls of Limerick event 2025

Dancing the Walls of Limerick Festival combines and celebrates two strands of our shared heritage, traditional dance and the medieval City Walls to bring about an afternoon of community interaction and family fun.

Funded by the Irish Walled Towns Network & Limerick City and County Council, the event starts with a parade of bands (City of Limerick Pipe Band and the Boherbuoy Band) from the Milk Market and St John's Square to the Festival location at Old Clare Street.

From 2pm - 3pm there will be a display of traditional dancing from 3 Irish dancing schools - Ballyhoura Set Dancers, the UL Academy of Dance and Ukrainian & Indian dancing groups.

From 3pm - 5pm there will be public participation in dance, learning "The Walls of Limerick Reel" leading to a finale of dancing.

At 3.30pm there will be a tour of the walls. There will be street entertainment, Limerick Sports Partnership will have varied sports for children, face-painting, print making.

There will also be a display of information on the City Walls, the Public Realm plans for the area and the results of the drawing competition in St. John’s Girls School.
