Limerick City Library hosts local author, Sheila Killian, whose novel Something Bigger takes the reader back to Alabama 100 years ago, to a Limerick-educated priest challenging the Ku Klux Klan.
Sheila will talk about the true story behind the book, and the about how to weave compelling fiction from history. Sheila Killian's novel, Something Bigger, is based on the amazing true story of her granduncle Fr. Jimmy Coyle who challenged the racism and bigotry of the Ku Klux Klan a hundred years ago in Alabama, and paid a high price for his principles. In this illustrated talk and discussion, Sheila will outline the process of digging out the true story behind the novel, and of turning dry historical facts into a novel Donal Ryan called "a stunning, intensely engaging novel."
