Rameau’s Les Boréades

Friday 19th February @ 7.30pm
  • Rameau’s Les Boréades

A co-production with Royal Ballet and Opera and in partnership with Luail, Ireland’s National Dance Company and in association with Irish Baroque Orchestra.

Celebrated for its audacious orchestral writing and intense dramatic power, Rameau’s French Baroque opera Les Boréades is an energetic portrayal of true love, vengeful gods and turbulent tempests. With esteemed Maestro Camille Delaforge a conductor of instinctive theatrical intelligence and radiant precision (Diapason) on the podium. Queen Alphise loves the outsider Abaris but is forbidden to marry anyone except a descendant of the North Wind God Borée.

Rivals rebel, chaos ensues and then the gods intervene. French coloratura soprano Lila Dufy makes her INO debut as Alphise, alongside tenor Hugo Brady as Abaris. Seán Boylan sings Borilée, while INO Studio alumna soprano Kelli-Anne Masterson appears as Sémire, with American director R. B. Schlather at the helm. Following a string of Olivier nominated and Olivier Award winning collaborations, the Irish Baroque Orchestra returns to perform with INO as well as Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company for this bold new staging of Rameau’s final opera.

After the nationwide tour Rameau’s Les Boréades will travel to London, as the first Rameau opera ever staged at London’s Royal Opera House.
