Free Tour of Limerick Museum

Opened in 1916, Limerick Museum is one of the oldest and largest local authority museums in the country with a diverse collection consisting of some 65,000 objects.

The story of the city and county is presented through a rich collection of artefacts, from Stone Age axes to medieval coins, to the civic sword of Queen Elizabeth I to a large collection of Limerick lace and silver. The more unusual items include Ireton’s Cat; a mummified cat found on Nicholas Street in the 1890s; a fragment of the largest meteorite that ever fell in Ireland in 1813; and a 1940s diving suit. 

The tour will last forty-five minutes. All welcome. Maximum number is 40. Of interest to the general public, tourists, local people, students, older people, people interested in history, people interested in decorative arts, people interested in natural history. Max number is 40.
