The symposium aims to foster connection, creativity, and conversation among lace makers, scholars, historians, artists, and lace enthusiasts everywhere. The keynote speaker is Elena Kanagy-Loux , PhD Candidate at the Bard Graduate Center, whose research into global lace history and the lives of lacemakers is grounded in her own experience as a maker.
The overarching theme for 2026 is “Tradition and Creativity” — reflecting the connecting threads between the lace making traditions on the island of Ireland and today’s lace makers’ efforts to maintain these traditions, while at the same time they create new work inspired by the today’s world. There will also be a pop-up exhibition with lace pieces, books and designs belonging to participants.
