Rathkeale Community Arts Group

  • Rathkeale Library

Rathkeale Community Arts Group was established in 1997 to promote greater awareness of the arts within our community, to encourage greater participation in various arts, to foster talent, and to bring excellence within easy reach of the community.

Over the years we have run events such as the Slanders Street Theatre Parade and hosted recitals and concerts which have featured the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Ronan Tynan, Mairead Buicke, Derek Moloney, Mick Hanley, Maria Doyle-Kennedy and Johnny Duhan, as well as more local and Limerick-based artists.

We have hosted many art exhibitions as well as a number of craft and photographic exhibitions and we have brought drama to Rathkeale with the Sean O’Faolain weekend, capitalising on the town’s connection with the renowned novelist and short-story writer. We have also erected a plaque and have inaugurated a singing bursary in honour of the late tenor Christopher Lynch, a native of Rathkeale.

The Arts Group, in partnership with the Limerick City and County Arts Office, also championed the concept of the Rathkeale Arts Centre, located above the library in Aras Sean Finn. This amenity is a significant part of the arts infrastructure and arts network. a lovely warm space, which has proven ideal for recitals, concerts, poetry readings, workshops and drama.
