Limerick City and County Council’s Environment Awareness Unit is sponsoring the inaugural Waste Prevention and Resource Efficiency Award as part of SciFest 2016.

Secondary schools across Limerick are taking part in the new competition, aimed at awarding one environmental project that best promotes waste prevention and resource efficiency.

SciFest is an annual forum in Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) for students to present and display the results of their scientific investigations.

The winning project will receive a trophy and an additional prize (value approx €400) of an educational class tour to the Ecovillage in Cloughjordan.

Sinead McDonnell, Environmental Awareness Officer, Limerick City and County Council said, "This award will be available to the school judged to have the most significant and practical environmental project based on Waste Prevention and Resource Efficiency at SciFest 2016 in LIT. Adherence to the waste management hierarchy will be essential."

SciFest 2016 takes place in LIT on Wednesday, 4th May 2016. More from www.scifest.ie.
