The Knight's Walk, Glin, Co. Limerick.

Fancy a challenging 5km run or exhilarating walk on one of Limerick’s most scenic trails? Then come to Glin on Saturday 16th March at 10am.

Meeting at the entrance to Glin Castle, Glin Triathlon Club are organising a free and fun 5km run/walk, taking in the castle grounds and the spectacular Knights Walk.

The Club, now in its 3rd year, wants to expand its membership to encourage new athletes to get involved in Ireland's fasting growing sport. The Club’s existing members have a wealth of experience from competing in the accessible sprint distance triathlons, right up to the more extreme Iron Man events.

For this fun event there will be an instructed warm up session at 10am to prepare for the main event. There will also be a shorter run for juniors paralleling what’s happening in Park Runs around the world. Similar to the Parkrun’s, this is all about inclusiveness and wellbeing. We want as many people as possible to feel part of a real local community, brought together by these events.

Glin is an amazing location with open water swimming from the pier, lots of long quiet secondary roads for walking and running, and plenty of hills to build up stamina on the bike. One of the gems on Glin’s doorstep is the Knights Walk which is named for the late Desmond John Villiers FitzGerald, the 29th Knight of Glin, who granted permission for trails to be opened through the estate.

Pól Ó Conghaile in a recent article in the Irish Independent graded this 3.92km trail as easy, but by the time you have climbed to the top of Tullyglass Hill you may upgrade this to medium.

If you are in no hurry you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding counties of Kerry, Clare, Galway and Tipperary at the top at the Viewing Platform. Glin Triathlon Club wish to acknowledge the support of Glin Development Association for this event, the Development Association have developed the Knight’s Walk and continue to maintain this wonderful local amenity. Local baker Maire Reidy will be in the car park afterwards with hot drinks and fresh baking on sale.

The Club will be offering winter warm up sessions including Turbo Bike sessions, running workshops, nutrition talks and open water swimming instruction and support late spring. The members all have a common goal to live a fit and healthy life and they would like to extend their support to the wider community. For more information go to www.GlinTriClub.ie.
