Hunt Museum Education Week runs from Monday 27th April and will run until Friday 1st May. To help teachers and parents trying to source curriculum based material during Covid-19, the Hunt Museum has turned several of its schools workshops into freely available online resources.

These include a post primary junior cycle costume research and design project which students complete using our virtual tour of the Best Costume Goes to... exhibition, and the beautifully designed Three Muses programme resource for primary school students to explore and creatively respond to artworks and objects across The Hunt Museum, Limerick City Gallery of Art and Limerick Museum collections.

Donncha OTreasaigh, Hunt Museum Board Member and Director of Schools with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board noted that "In spite of the restrictions of Covid-19, the Hunt Museum has worked extremely hard to compliment the great work of schools in remote and distance learning by harnessing the creativity of our young people to get involved in a range of exciting and fun activities. Each of these is carefully designed to add to the existing curriculum at both primary and post-primary levels."

He added: "The Board of the Hunt Museum is particularly proud of the impact the Education Team has on weaving a contemporary tapestry map of resources that young people in our region enjoy and find interesting - linking particularly with the rich heritage of the Hunt Museum and its collection."

Hunt Museum Education Week provides lots of digital learning and creative activities for  kids and families who can search for animals using 3D digital models of Hunt Museum collection objects.

Or children can tackle some of the art challenges in the print friendly Lockdown with Limerick Artists Activity Pack, which are designed by some famous  local artists, including John Shinnors and Sam Walsh, as well as emerging artists. Children can create a family totem pole, use toilet roll inserts to make a sausage dog or even recreate a view of their garden using pointillism, a painting technique used by neo-impressionist artists, such as Georges-Pierre Seurat. It also features colouring pages that can be enhanced with glitter and paint, or fur and feathers. Three editions of the pack are scheduled. The first will be shared this Friday via the Hunt Museums social media platforms and website. The other two will be circulated later this month.

The Museum has also talked to local teachers to find out how they can help. Iain Burns, Fourth Class Teacher at Scoil Ide, Corbally,  commented: "The educational support offered by the Hunt Museum has been fantastic. The Museums resources are both engaging and rewarding for the children, at a time when it is needed the most. These resources have been helping the children to develop their creativity, focus and skills in collaboration. As these skills develop, the benefits can be seen throughout their learning, across the curriculum.”

We hope to encourage even greater social connectedness by teachers, students and families, posting photographs of their completed activities on social media using hashtags: #HuntMuseumEducationWeek and #MuseumsFromHome. Many other digital learning opportunities, including offerings for adults, such as Hunt Museum Collection in a Minute videos, can also be accessed through the Museum from Home page on the website.

Each day we will use our social media platforms to share a new and innovative digital resource which will support curriculum based learning and creativity at home.
