Open Days at MIC showcase the wide range of programmes, extra-curricular activities and exceptional facilities that the College has to offer. Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff, mingle with current MIC students and take a tour of the campus.

The Mary Immaculate College (MIC) October Open Days take place on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 October 9am to 3pm on MIC Campus, Limerick.

Open days provide an ideal opportunity for prospective students to experience the distinctive and friendly atmosphere of the college. With a student population of just over 4,500, MIC gives students a home-from-home feel and a close knit community experience. The college also prides itself on the high calibre of education and the great student-staff relationships fostered from the moment students enter MIC.

According to Dr Geraldine Brosnan, Director of Student Life at MIC; “MIC prides itself on our high quality student experience. The College’s support services are extensive and of very high quality. Part of our mission and vision is to create a community of scholars where staff and students work together and our aim is to provide services, activities, and resources that maintain the College’s educational enterprise while also supporting our students personally as they learn, grow, and change through their time at MIC”.

Open days also afford prospective students the opportunity to learn about programme content, career options and the College’s extensive range of clubs and societies as well as study and working abroad opportunities. Information will also be available on MIC’s entrance scholarships on offer across all 10 undergraduate degrees.

Presentations will be given on all MIC’s programmes including the popular Bachelor of Arts (MI002) programme, offered in collaboration with UL. This programme provides students with a wider choice of subjects to choose from - 19 in all. Students can choose from a set of 13 subjects taught at MIC and can now take one subject from partner institution, the University of Limerick.

Talks on the innovative BA in Contemporary and Applied Theatre Studies and the five post-primary teaching programmes on the MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus, Thurles will also feature. MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus, Thurles offers five concurrent degree programmes that are designed to prepare students to become second-level teachers. The programmes include:

  • BA in Education, Business Studies and Accounting (MI009)
  • BA in Education, Business Studies and Religious Studies (MI010)
  • BA in Education, Irish and Religious Studies (MI011)
  • BA in Education, Irish and Business Studies (MI012)
  • BA in Education, Mathematics and Gaeilge (MI013)

In addition attendees will be able to learn more about the college’s established programmes in Education, including Early Childhood Education degrees.

While prospective students may include young people aiming for the programme of their choice through the Leaving Certificate and CAO, our student community currently includes people of all ages, from a diversity of backgrounds, who have entered the college in a variety of ways.

The open day will be of particular interest to Transition Year, Fifth Year and Leaving Certificate students, as well as mature students.
