Old Crescent RFC launches Pig ‘n’ Porter 2017, Ireland’s Largest Tag Rugby Festival, which kicks off on Saturday, 15th July 2017

The Pig’n'Porter Tag Rugby Festival is Ireland’s largest and best tag rugby sporting festival held in Limerick every July, and this year the Festival is celebrating its 16th anniversary - pigs may not fly, but the years certainly have!

Old Crescent RFC, in association with TagRugby.ie and Rugby Travel Ireland, will host the 2017 Pig ‘n’ Porter Festival at its enlarged grounds in Rosbrien, Limerick, on Saturday, 15th July 2017, when over 120 tag teams will take part.  The Festival is firmly rooted in Old Crescent folklore, with the added celebration this year of Old Crescent finishing in the Ulster Bank All Ireland League Division 2B play-offs!

The Pig ‘n’ Porter Festival will showcase the proud sporting tradition of Limerick to a wide audience and will provide a welcome boost to the local tourism and hospitality sectors including accommodation providers, bars, restaurants and visitor attractions.

After the prizes have been handed out and weary bodies have had a chance to recover, the Festival will continue into the early hours with a live band – Whitewater – followed by live DJ.

Pig ‘n’ Porter would not be possible without the generous support of main sponsor Heineken Light, and associate sponsors, Bord na Mona, Keane’s Jewellers, Davis Printers, University of Limerick Sports Campus, who will be hosting some of the early rounds of the Festival, and our media partner Limerick Post. We thank them all for making Pig ‘n’ Porter 2017 a reality.

Speaking at the Pig ‘n’ Porter Festival launch, Tim Duggan, President of Old Crescent RFC, said “We look forward to welcoming taggers and friends, old and new, to Rosbrien on 15th July”.

He also thanked “our hard working team of volunteers, who will once again be on hand to ensure everyone has a super time. Our volunteers are at the heart of the festival and their dedication has ensured the success of the Pig ‘n’ Porter Festival over the years”.
