EVA International is pleased to announce the selected artists for the Platform Commissions programme of EVA International 2027—Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art: Shirani Bolle, Mícheál Keating, Eva Richardson McCrea, Sonia Shiel, and Carlos Valdez-Kehoe.

The 2027 edition marks EVA’s 50th anniversary, which will critically reflect on key artistic moments and broader political changes that have taken place in Ireland over the past five decades. The selected artists will work with EVA to present ambitious new commissions across Limerick from 27 August to 24 October 2027. Proposals were selected by artists Bridget O’Gorman, Phillip McCrilly, and Eimear Walshe, following an open call process that invited artists to respond to ideas and histories surrounding the 1996 EVA presentation of Félix González-Torres’s Untitled (America).

Shortlisted Platform Commissions artists included: Clodagh Assata Boyce, Basil Al-Rawi and Philip Ryan, Manal Mahamid, Samir Mahmood, and Alice Rekab and Sophie Mak-Schram.

Artist Bios

Shirani Bolle is a multi heritage, Limerick-based artist working across performance, film, sculpture, sound, and textiles. Shirani investigates the role of women in both domestic and media contexts,
utilising established tropes to consider patriarchal conceptions of femininity. Her practice explores marginalisation and identity. Recent activities include a solo exhibition at Sirius Arts Centre (2026)
and participation in Ormston House's Artist Affiliate Scheme (2026).

Mícheál Keating is a media artist working across sound, image, and text. Rooted in County Limerick, his practice explores the politics of place and memory. His most recent project Live
Landscapes/Tírdhreacha Beo (2022–2025) resulted in a self-published book/CD and solo exhibition at Spacecraft, Limerick.

Eva Richardson McCrea is an artist working across video, sculpture, and photography. Eva's practice investigates the social, political, and economic forces shaping contemporary subjectivities
and social relations. Selected screenings and solo presentations include Project Arts Centre (2025), Douglas Hyde Gallery (2025), and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art (2024).

Sonia Shiel is a Dublin-based artist whose practice spans painting, performance, and collaborative projects. In 2024/26 Sonia was a resident artist at ISCP, New York, sponsored by TBGS, where she
collaborated with Pageant, and Philadelphia’s Contemporary Curatorial Initiatives. Selected recent exhibitions include IMMA (2025), VISUAL (2024) and Kunstverein Aughrim (2023).

Carlos Valdez-Kehoe is a Dublin-based artist whose practice draws on anthropological and sociolinguistic research to explore syncretism within cultural practices. Working across installation, performance, and food, he has exhibited in Europe and Latin America, including at the Embassy of Mexico in Ireland (2025) and the University Museum of Contemporary Art MUAC (2018).
