The Limerick Learning Hub was the location for Mincéir Tashler, a vibrant outdoor concert which took place on July 21st to celebrate Traveller Pride week. In collaboration with the Local Creative Youth Partnership, Music Generation and Limerick Traveller Health Programme and The GAFF, the Learning Hub presented a quality lunchtime concert in their magnificent grounds to an audience of over fifty local members of the community.
The concert was part of Guth na Mincéirí, which is led by The GAFF and funded by Creative Ireland and The Arts Council.
Guth na Mincéirí, a six month programme of art and creative projects in Limerick, will see members of the Travelling community, across the generations, take part in and present projects that span visual art, music performance, film, sound and craft. These programmes of work will be led by and feature some of the Mid-west’s most talented artists including Frank McCarthy, David McDonagh, Sharyn Ward, Melanie O’Rourke and the music artist, Willzee who plays a key curatorial role as well as performing in several music events within the programme.
The programme of work encompasses a wide range of Traveller voices from the young people who engage with the LCYP to older Travellers who access LTHP services. A visual art project commemorating lost loved ones, a gathering of Young Beoirs, a celebration of Limerick Pride, a sound installation capturing the hope of mothers for their daughters, a new short film inspired by the history of Traveller housing, group wreath-making and a concert with some of the country’s most talented music artists, all lead to a weekend festival, TravFest, in Belltable, Limerick in November.
