Fundraising concert is perfect interlude between Christmas and New Year.
A novel fundraising campaign has been launched by the Limerick Opera Festival to help support the development of the new group. Limerick Opera Festival is planning on building an ‘Opera Wall’ with donations along the wall to be built brick by brick.
As part of its campaign to make opera more attractive and accessible, a special Christmas Opera Aria Gala is taking place in the wonderful surroundings of St. Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday 30 December 2021 at 6pm.
A perfect interlude between the Christmas and New Year festivities, the Festival Fundraising Campaign Concert will feature soprano Kelli- Ann Masterson and bass Kevin Neville, accompanied on piano by Peter Barley, performing some very popular operatic arias.
The concert kicks off the Festival’s fundraising campaign ‘The Opera Wall’ in which members of the public, families, businesses or clubs are invited to sponsor a brick. The 'Opera Wall' will become part of an exhibition to be held in Limerick Museum in 2022.
Festival Director Ger Reidy said: “Limerick Opera Festival wants to show that opera can be for everyone. We want to build the festival from the ground up and that is where the Opera Wall campaign came from. We want to challenge the idea that opera is not accessible to all.
“We are planning our inaugural festival in May 2022, and this Christmas Gala will showcase the talent we have and promote the organisation. We are looking for ways to fundraise and came upon the Opera Wall.
“We want to build it brick by brick, but that is only possible with the support of the people and businesses of Limerick. Our concert over the Christmas period will help promote what will be on offer in the summer and is also a perfect way for people to relax during the lull that usually happens between Christmas and New Year. ”
