Film in Limerick has been nominated for a Global Film Award under the Emerging Location category. The shortlist for the inaugural Global Production Awards which celebrates outstanding and sustainable work in the world of film and TV production, locations and studios, was unveiled by Screen International. The winners will be announced at the illustrious Cannes Film Festival on 22 May 2023.
Film in Limerick is a project developed by Innovate Limerick under the auspices of Limerick City & County Council to cater for the growing film industry in the region. It acts as the film office for the Mid-West and works to promote the region as a location for film production and to support productions filming in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary. The sector has gone from strength to strength in recent years and already this year the Mid-West has seen two TV series and a major feature film shoot locally.
The Global Film Awards recognise organisations and companies working in the film and TV industry including studios, production companies, film commissions, location, suppliers and manufacturers and any services involved in film and TV production. The Global Film Awards nomination follows the recent news that Limerick has also been selected to hold the prestigious Cineposium event in September. The AFCI Cineposium event will bring together Film Commissions and industry leaders from around the world to discuss policy, economic development and screen production and will serve as an opportunity to showcase Limerick and the west coast of Ireland to major studio executives.

The sector has grown rapidly in recent years with the support of the Councils in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, along with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and Screen Ireland. We have ambitious plans for the development of the sector. Being nominated for the award and selected to host Cineposium is a fantastic endorsement of our efforts to date."

Hosting the Cineposium conference is worth €.5 Million to the local economy in the short term, but its legacy has the ability to change the landscape of Limerick and the region.”
Film in Limerick is up against the City of Zagreb in Croatia, the New Mexico Film Office in the US,Film AlUla in Saudi Arabia and the Dominican Republic Film Commission in their category. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival on 22 May 2023. Judges for the Global Production Awards include senior vice president at HBO Jay Roewe; Elvis producer Schuyler Weiss, president of production and development at Bazmark; Amazon Studios’ head of worldwide production and post-production, Tim Clawson; producer and former Sundance executive Bird Runningwater; and the Association of Film Commissioners International’s (AFCI) executive director, Jaclyn Philpott.
